Chickens on the RUN

Wandering around at 4 weeks

Right now the chicks are just growing and getting more and more adult feathers. They are definitely developing their personalities. Thelma and Louise continue to look for adventure whenever possible, Baby is very sweet, Minnie and Daisy are usually very silly and love their dust baths and Zena is always on the lookout. We took them out Saturday and put them in the extra stall in the barn. After they got used to the environment, they ran around and scratched and explored. They were very tired after their big outdoor adventure. Plans continue to be made for the coop. We have decided to make the run wider and put a chicken wire divider down the middle so we can rotate them from one side to the other to keep the area from getting totally destroyed.

Guess we'll try and get the coop done over the next 2 - 3 weeks. Then it should be warm enough for them to move outside. Glen has been a good sport but I'm sure he would like his workshop back.

More feathers, End of Week Two

Well, now they look like little chickens. I can't believe how they've grown. We moved them into another indoor coop so they would have more room to play. The love to just jump on top of things and then off again. They also are very interested in what each other has in their beak. If one has something interesting looking (like fuzz) another one will run over and grab it then run away. We let them out into the room to play almost every evening after work. They take some time to get going but then they are everywhere! We must get started on the outdoor coop & run soon, probably at the end of the month. They should be able to go outside permanently by the middle of May.
