It seems that all of the chickens must be laying now. We are collecting 3 - 5 eggs a day and have started enjoying these tasty treats. Every day we take special treats out to the girls in a way to thank them for the eggs, it only seems fair, they give us something special, and we give them something in return. It's been hard to find tastier treats than we have been giving them, but yesterday I gave them the mash left over after I had run some carrots and pears through the juicer and they acted like it was a sunday! We are able to let them out of the run almost everyday and now that Glen put up the new fence, they stay on our place and we can usually see them. They haven't ventured down to the garden yet but after we turn it over for the winter we are planning to take them down so they can have a feast. Chickens are really fun to interact with, most of them let me pet them if somewhat reluctantly but they all always come running to me when I go outside (I guess they are looking for a treat). They love Glen too since he always takes treats when he goes out to see them. This is turning out to be very different than I thought it would be, sharp learning curve in the beginning and now it has sort of leveled off. There is so much about chickens I never knew and never would have guessed but I am grateful for the opportunity to get to know about them.

More Chicken Fun
We've been busy enjoying some fun time with the chickens. Glen and Jonathan put some fence up so the girls can't travel quite so far and we don't have to worry about them running into any stray dogs. The Chickens love cantaloupe and watermelon, special treats and really good for them on hot days. One of the chickens especially likes to be petted, in fact sometimes I think she would like me to hold her. Maybe we'll start working on that next weekend.

We have eggs!!!
Finally, we have eggs. I checked this afternoon when I got home from work and there were two eggs in nesting boxes. They are both light brown and med size. One of them was in a box with the golf ball and one was in a box by itself. I was of course very excited and was telling the chickens how proud of them I am and noticed another very small egg in the run by the fence. I guess someone didn't feel like going into the box. I won't keep these eggs because I really don't know if they were layed yesterday or today since I didn't have chicken duty yesterday. I hope this means they will be on a roll now. As a treat, I gave the girls some sunflowers, they love the seeds.
